My recent post “HOLY GRAIL” System, the CURE for Burnout, UPGRADE-ITIS, and Other AUDIOPHILE Ailments was intended as something of a gauntlet. In it I state in no uncertain terms that “There’s a better way to do analog,” a statement I firmly stand behind and one that I hope will push other audiophiles to take a different and more fulfilling approach to this hobby.
I don’t call this site The Broken Record for nothin’, and in many ways this article was just saying in a different way what I’ve been saying for several years now.
I’m actually not someone who likes repeating himself, but after spending my career teaching I’ve learned all too well that some messages are harder to get across. And sometimes these messages need to be said again, and again, and then, again.
It’s occured to me that one way of reinforcing what has become the central message of this site would be to repost some of the articles I’ve written in which I’ve tried to convey some version of that message –
If you want to make some serious progress in this hobby. If you want to hear your favorite music sound better than you ever imagined it could. If you want to hear your system reproduce recordings in a way that they just about convince you you’re right there for the performance. If you want all of that and more, get the right records and then rebuild your current system to play them.
Stay tuned for some articles that I feel very much deserve another look.
